Product description
Perspective view of Paris - Author: Probst
The imposing Arc de Triomphe, the dome of the Sorbonne, the towers of Notre Dame, the unmistakable silhouette of the Hotel National Des Invalides, the sweetness of Montmartre, portrayed the latter even before the construction of the Basilique de Sacré-Coeur. Yes, because with Probst's perspective views we are in the middle of the eighteenth century, and we can therefore see a different Paris from the one we are used to. Yet the appearance of the city is unmistakable. The French Revolution is still to come, the storming of the Bastille has not even been dreamed of, and French rulers still reign in absolute power. What this view of Paris allows us to do is a real leap in time, sweet and fascinating, as are the lines of this precious canvas. The gaze is lost between one detail and another, on those many small details that tell us about a world that is so different – yet so similar. But, beyond the content, it is the style of this view of Paris that fascinates us relentlessly.
A faithful reproduction of Probst's perspective view of Paris
The perspective view of Paris that we offer you on this page is a small jewel among the artistic-cartographic achievements of the past centuries. The name of the French capital stands high above the spiers and gargoyles of Notre Dame Cathedral, in large letters on a parchment that unrolls in the French sky. At the top left and at the bottom, the eighteenth-century publisher wanted to show 3 different legends, thus already thinking of an international audience. In order not to undermine the value of this reproduction in any way, the perspective view of Paris was printed like the original, and therefore using an old manual press with artfully engraved plates. The support consists of a special 100% cotton paper, which has then undergone an accurate aging process. For cartography enthusiasts, for the eternal admirers of the Ville Lumiere, for ancient engravings lovers: this canvas is an outstanding piece of furniture, filling the eyes and hearts of many.
