Product description

Perspective view of Naples - Author: Probst

The perspective view of Naples, with the Castel dell'Ovo on one side and the pier on the other, seems want to surround the observer. What first strikes and captures the attention is the Mediterranean that bathes the Neapolitan city, crossed by splendid sailing ships. A little further on, where the waves subside, eighteenth-century Naples rises majestically. It is a faithful perspective view, made particular by the all-German taste of accentuating and emphasizing the city towers, almost as if to erect fascinating minarets among the various Neapolitan castles. Behind the city, at the same level as Castel Sant'Elmo on the Vomero hill, we come across a gently unrolled parchment, bearing the Greek root from which Naples derives, precisely 'Neapolis', new city. In the lower part, as regularly reported on Probst's views, a rich legend with 77 entries, indicates the main points of interest.

The perspective view of Neapolis: the Neapolitan city seen by Probst

This perspective view of Naples is part of a large cycle of European cities’ views created by the Bavarian publishers Probst during the eighteenth century, almost as if to create an enormous and meticulous mosaic of the Old Continent. To fascinate the contemporary observer, in addition to the elegance and care of the drawing, there is the particular method to produce this canvas. The aim is to place in your hands a collector's item similar to the one released three hundred years ago by Probst's typography in Augsburg. This print is made with an old manual press, using a 100% cotton paper support, then mounted on a canvas of the same material. To complete the touch and visual experience, the multi-sheet assembly make easier the storage and transport of the map itself.

*** Our canvases are printed with a hand press and are produced on request only. It takes about 10 days for the Black & White version and about 20 days for the Hand-painted.

Attention: the canvases are delivered without frame.
